Black Pullover

Finished another cotton sweater, actually this one is a cotton/linen blend. This was improvised from the bottom up as most of my sweaters have been lately, I haven't even tried to follow a pattern for the last half dozen or so sweaters. Or socks. Or hats; no wait I did follow a pattern for my Mom's first cancer hat.

My lousy photography skills make it hard to see the neck line but it's the same as Celestial from a few months ago. This one came out much wider though due to a math error when I was calculating how many stitches to leave for the neck and I accidentally calculated that I would need 45% of the total stitches on the body of the sweater instead of 40% making it much wider than is really needed. Oh well, it's still wearable.

The colour on this one is a true black which goes well with my Scent Hurdle team's colours of black and yellow. Yeah, I don't know who's idea that was but it does make us easy to see at a tournament.

I did make a mistake near the end when I forgot to switch to the smaller needles for the cuff ribbing. Meh, I'm not going back now.

Pattern: my own
Yarn: Knit Picks CotLin in Black
Needle: 4.0mm & 4.25mm
Gauge: 19 stitches in 10cm

Ahab
Ahab is doing well since having four lumps removed earlier this week. The bad new is that one looks a lot like lymphoma. Still waiting on the official biopsy results but that was the vet's opinion after removing the lump. Poor pup is stuck in a cone for the next week.

Current Weather
-1C and mostly cloudy.

Niece Socks

Finished a pair of socks for my Niece's birthday in March. Basic top down sock done with an interesting yarn as usual. My favourite. I do like this parifect yarn; although fraternal socks are also OK.

Pattern: basic sock
Yarn: Schachenmayr Regia Pairfect in 01731
Needle: 2.5mm
Gauge: 41 stitches and 46 rows = 10 cm

Other News
A friend let me run her dog so I played Scent Hurdle today. So much fun. I was saying to multiple people today that ever since Ahab retired from Scent Hurdle I have never been so busy at a tournament. People offer me dogs to run or I judge the tournament or something. So. Much. Fun.

Also went snowshoeing on Saturday with some friends; that was also fun but my calves keep reminding me that it would be helpful to be fitter when doing these things. Sigh.

Current Weather
-12C and mostly cloudy. Doesn't feel nearly this cold.

Cancer Comfort Cap

I don't think I've actually said this here before but my Mom's health problems are Breast Cancer, she was diagnosed just a couple weeks before Christmas last year. Just when she found out she could have her hip surgery any time; gotta take care of the cancer first though. In order to make sure she has something from me to keep her warm during what will likely be a difficult time as she goes through chemo treatment I plan to knit her several hats. This is the first.

I hope to do at least two more so she has a choice of hats to wear since, unfortunately, she has been told that this type of chemo almost guarantees hair loss.

Pattern: Cancer Comfort Cap by Universal Yarn
Yarn: King Cole Cotton Top DK in Grey
Needle: 3.25mm & 3.5mm
Gauge: 24 stitches and 32 rows = 10 cm in Reverse Stockinette

Fun fact, it is one of my pictures that shows up when you look at the yarn's Ravelry page.

Ahab
Also, unfortunately it's more bad news; I found  lump on Ahab. When I took him to the vet she found three more, she did an ultrasound and did not find anything untoward inside him but I still want to have the lumps removed and biopsied so we know what we're dealing with here.

Every time I turn around this year there is more bad health news. I'm actually done with 2020 and I'm quite prepared to skip to 2021 anytime now.

Current Weather
-3C and partly cloudy.
